ASTM F2052 Standard Test Method for Measurement of Magnetically Induced Displacement Force in Medical Devices in a Magnetic Resonance Environment

This standard covers the measurement of the magnetically induced displacement force produced by static magnetic field gradients (spatial field gradient) in medical devices and comparing this force with the weight of the medical device.

This standard does not address other potential security issues, including but not limited to:

  • Magnetically induced torque;
  • Radiofrequency (RF) heating;
  • Induced heating;
  • acoustic noise;
  • Interaction between devices and device functionality issues;
  • Magnetic resonance (MR) system.

This standard is designed for devices that can be suspended from an array. Devices that cannot be suspended from an array are not covered by this test method. The weight of the rope on which the device is suspended during the test must be less than 1% of the weight of the device under test.

This standard will be performed on a horizontal bore MR system with a static magnetic field oriented horizontally and parallel to the MR system bore.
