Test Method A is for samples that are fully formed to the inside dimension of a waveguide.

Test Method B is for specimens of certain geometry that occupies a very small portion of the space in a resonance cavity.

Test Method C uses a resonant cavity with fewer sample size, geometry, and placement restrictions than Test Methods A and B.

Although these methods are used over the microwave frequency spectrum of about 0,5 to 50,0 GHz, each octave increment usually requires a different generator and a smaller test waveguide or resonant cavity.

Testing at high temperatures is done using special high temperature waveguide and resonance cavities.
