The ASTM F1346 test specifies requirements for safety covers for swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, and mobile pools (hereinafter referred to as pools unless otherwise noted). When installed and used correctly according to the manufacturer's instructions, this specification is intended to reduce the risk of drowning by preventing children under five years of age from accessing water.
This specification includes performance tests for safety closures to demonstrate compliance or non-compliance with the requirements set forth herein. It also includes marking requirements for all caps.
Some qualifications for ASTM specification F1346 include:
A pool cover company's website, literature, and brochures will state ASTM F1346 safety cover compliance. The correct labels will be affixed to the pool cover itself, and the company will be able to show laboratory reports to further prove the pool covers' compliance with the standard.
All pool safety covers are complementary pool safety aids and are not a substitute for uninterrupted and continuous supervision by an adult. Pool covers can never replace adult supervision and cannot guarantee against drowning or other accidents.
Values stated in inch-pound units should be considered standard. Values in parentheses are for informational purposes only.
