This test method covers the determination of resistance to pill formation and other related surface changes in textile fabrics using the Martindale tester. The procedure is generally applicable to all fabric types, particularly suitable for woven fabrics.
This test method is not suitable for fabrics thicker than 3 mm [0,125 inches] because such fabrics cannot be mounted in the sample holder. The fabric can be washed or dry cleaned prior to testing.
Values stated in SI units or inch-pound units will be considered standard separately. Values specified in each system may not be exactly equivalent; therefore, each system will be used independently of each other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-compliance with the standard.
