ASTM F2413 Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective-Toe Footwear

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM F2413 standard. The ASTM F2413 standard specifies minimum requirements for the performance of footwear to protect against a variety of workplace hazards that could potentially result in injury.

ASTM F2413 Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective-Toe Footwear

This specification is not intended to serve as a detailed production or purchasing specification, but may be referenced in purchasing contracts to ensure minimum performance requirements are met.

Controlled laboratory tests used to determine compliance with the performance requirements of this specification will not be considered as determining performance levels for all conditions to which individuals may be exposed.

Any modification to the original components of protective toe shoes, such as the replacement or addition of post-market footbeds/additions, may result in failure of any or all part of this standard and void the ASTM mark.

This specification covers minimum design, performance, testing and classification requirements and specifies fit, function and performance criteria for footwear designed to be worn to protect against a variety of workplace hazards that could potentially result in injury.

This specification is not intended to serve as a detailed manufacturing or purchasing specification, but may be referenced in purchasing contracts to ensure that minimum performance requirements are met.

Footwear conforming to this specification must meet performance requirements for:

  • Impact resistance for the toe of the shoe;
  • Compression resistance for the toe area of the shoe;
  • Metatarsal protection, which reduces the possibility of injury to the metatarsal bones on the top of the foot;
  • Conductive properties that reduce the hazards that can arise from the build-up of static electricity and reduce the possibility of ignition of explosives and volatile chemicals;
  • Electric shock resistance;
  • Static dissipative (SD) features to reduce hazards from extremely low shoe resistance that may be present where SD footwear is required;
  • Puncture resistance of shoe soles; chain saw cut resistance; and dielectric insulation.

Any modification to the original components of protective toe shoes, such as the replacement or addition of post-market footbeds/additions, may result in failure of any or all part of this standard and void the ASTM mark.

This specification does not apply to straps on safety toe caps or safety finger devices.

Values stated in SI units should be accepted as standard. Values in parentheses are for informational purposes only.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
