ASTM D2794 is a standard test method for the resistance of organic coatings to the effects of rapid deformation (impact). This standard involves applying organic coatings to suitable 24 gauge metal panels and dropping a standard weight from a distance to induce an indentation that deforms the coating as well as the substrate.
This standard is usually performed after specimens are subjected to an accelerated aging treatment such as ASTM G154 for sun exposure and after heat aging.
Coatings applied to substrates are subject to dramatically varying influences, whether during construction or use. This standard has been found to be very useful in estimating the impact resistance of organic coatings, the number of inch-pounds required to crack the deformed pavement.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
