This specification covers stainless steel forged requirements for surgical implants. Forgings shall be rods or wire and forged by hammering, pressing, rolling, extrusion or stacking. The material shall comply with the manufacturing procedure, chemical composition, mechanical requirements and test methods specified in this specification. Mechanical tests include tension, tensile, elongation and hardness tests. Special tests such as corrosion tests, grain size and fluorescent penetrant inspection will also be performed.
