ASTM B571 measures various physical properties of metal plating materials such as gold, copper, silver and others based on their adhesion quality by various methods for quality standards comparisons. The standard describes several different tests and tables to compare different metallic coatings for a particular application.
This test application is a simple set of tests to determine the adhesion of metallic coatings on various materials. These tests include: bending, polishing, chisel/knife, drawing, filing, grinding and sawing, heating/quenching, impact, peeling, pushing and scratching. For general adhesion testing, the ASTM B571 Fixture can be used for peel testing. This test is commonly used if the coating is to peel off without tearing.
