ASTM G155 Standard Practice for Operating Xenon Arc Light Apparatus for Exposure of Non-Metallic Materials

This standard specifies the basic principles and operating procedures for the use of xenon arc light and water devices to reproduce the effects of weathering that occurs when materials are exposed to sunlight (directly or through window glass) and moisture as rain or dew in actual use. This standard is limited to procedures for obtaining, measuring and controlling exposure conditions. A number of exposure procedures are listed in an appendix; however, this application does not specify the optimal exposure conditions for the material to be tested.

Test samples are exposed to filtered xenon arc light under controlled environmental conditions. Different xenon arc light sources and different filter combinations are described.

Sample preparation and evaluation of results are covered in ASTM methods or specifications for specific materials. Values stated in SI units will be accepted as standard.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
