ASTM D6045 Standard Test Method for Color of Petroleum Products by Automatic Tristimulus Method

This test method covers the automatic color determination of a wide variety of petroleum products, such as unpainted engine and aviation gasoline, aviation turbine fuels, naphthas, kerosene, pharmaceutical white oils, diesel fuels, heating oils and lubricating oils. This test method correlates to Test Method D156 and Test Method D1500 as calculated by instrumentation.

With proper sample use, this test method will apply to petroleum waxes, but they have not been used in the round robin and the precision of this test method for waxes is unknown.

This test method has a one-to-one correlation for the entire range of Test Method D1500 ASTM Color and 156 to +0 for Test Method D30 Saybolt color.

This test method does not apply to solid samples, petroleum products containing dyes, and petroleum products with excessive fluorescence. This test method is not applicable to cloudy samples. Such samples should be filtered to clear prior to measurement.
