This specification aims to establish requirements for labeling end materials that use plastics or polymers as coatings or binders as “compostable in aerobic municipal and industrial composting facilities”.
The properties in this specification are essential to determine whether the end materials (including packaging) that use plastics and polymers as coatings or binders will compost satisfactorily in large-scale aerobic municipal or industrial composting where maximum efficiency is a high priority and intermediate steps are involved. Plastic biodegradation should not be visible to the end user for aesthetic reasons.
