The British pendulum tester is a dynamic pendulum impact tester used to measure energy loss when a rubber slider edge is pushed over a test surface. The tester is suitable for laboratory and field tests on flat surfaces and for polish value measurements on curved laboratory samples from accelerated polish wheel tests.
The measured values, BPN = British pendulum (tester) number for flat surfaces and polish values for accelerated polishing wheel specimens represent the friction properties obtained with the apparatus and the procedures outlined herein and do not necessarily match or correlate with other lubricity measuring equipment. .
