ASTM G63 Standard Guide for Evaluation of Non-Metallic Materials for Oxygen Service

The ASTM G63 standard applies to non-metallic materials (hereinafter referred to as materials) evaluated for service of oxygen or oxygen-enriched fluids, directly or indirectly, as defined below.

ASTM G63 Standard Guide for Evaluation of Non-Metallic Materials for Oxygen Service

It is intended for use in the selection of materials for applications associated with the production, storage, transportation, distribution or use of oxygen. It primarily concerns the properties of a material associated with its relative susceptibility to ignition and propagation of combustion; mechanical properties, potential toxicity, outgassing, reactions between various materials in the system, functional reliability, or performance characteristics such as physical aging, degradation, corrosion, hardening or embrittlement, except where these may contribute to an ignition.

When this document was first published in 1980, it covered both metals and nonmetals. Its scope has been narrowed down to nonmetals only and a separate standard Guidance G94 has been developed to address metals.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
