This Standard also provides requirements for static-dissipative shoes with or without footrests. This Standard also provides requirements for slip-resistant footwear with or without other protective features.

This Standard does not address in-shoe toenail protectors and related after-market components (eg, toe iris protectors, overshoes, attachable metatarsal protectors, non-slip devices and protective inserts). These are considered an integral part of safety shoes.

Flash and flame protection, ankle protection, firefighter shoes, spiked mountaineering shoes and riot boots are not specifically addressed in this Standard. Although the special protection required by these applications is out of the scope, impact, puncture and static-dissipative criteria can be applied in accordance with other shoe types.

In this Standard, "notice" is used to refer to a requirement that the user must comply with in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or what is recommended but not necessary; and "could" are used to denote an option or option that is allowed within the limits of the Standard.

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; The purpose of a note accompanying an article is to separate it from the text of explanatory or informative material. Its appendices are designated as normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to describe their application.
