Foot Protection Equipment Tests

Compression Resistance of Fingers (ISO 20344, §5.5)

The ISO 20344 standard has been designed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) to describe the characteristics and test methods of footwear, which are among personal protective equipment. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 20344 Personal protective equipment - Test methods for footwear.

Compression Resistance of Fingers (ISO 20344, §5.5)

This standard describes a number of methods for testing footwear of personal protective equipment. Among the test methods in the standard that are valid for all protective shoes, clause 5.5 is for determining the compression resistance of the toes.

In general, shoes worn in work areas are intended to protect workers from the following hazards: falling, rolling or contact with sharp objects, pressing sharp and sharp elements, anti-static and electrical hazards, contact with chemicals and biological agents, molten metal as well as cold and heat. exposure to thermal factors and wet and slippery surfaces.

Shoes designed for foot and leg protection are classified as personal protective equipment and are covered by two directives in European Union countries. The first of these is the directive 89/656 / EEC and sets the minimum requirements for personal protective equipment used by employees. The other is directive 89/686 / EEC, which stipulates that the personal protective equipment put on the market should provide the highest level of protection against hazards. It defines the legal obligations.

Protective shoes are designed to transmit pressure and impact from the nose. For this reason, it is important to determine the compression resistance of the fingertips. Special test devices are used to measure the compression strength and puncture resistance performance of shoes in advanced laboratories in safety shoes compression puncture resistance tests.

Within the framework of foot protection equipment testing services, our organization also provides testing services for the compression resistance of the fingertips (ISO 20344, §5.5).
