Foot Protection Equipment Tests

Water Vapor Resistance (ISO 20344, §6.6 - §6.7 - §6.8)

The ISO 20344 standard has been designed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) to describe the characteristics and test methods of footwear, which are among personal protective equipment. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 20344 Personal protective equipment - Test methods for footwear.

Water Vapor Resistance (ISO 20344, §6.6 - §6.7 - §6.8)

This standard describes many test methods for testing shoes, which occupy an important place among personal protective equipment. The test methods applicable to the upper surface, lining and tongue of all protective shoes in the standard are as follows (Article 6):

  • Determining the top thickness
  • Measuring the height of the upper part
  • Determination of tear strength of top, lining and / or tongue
  • Determination of the tensile properties of the upper material
  • Determination of upper flexural strength
  • Determination of water vapor permeability
  • Determination of water vapor absorption
  • Determination of water vapor coefficient
  • Determination of pH
  • Determination of resistance to top hydrolysis
  • Determination of chromium VI content
  • Determination of the wear resistance of the lining and insole
  • Determination of water penetration and water absorption
  • Determining the resistance to the upper cut

Clauses 6.6, 6.7 and 6.8 of the standard are for determining the resistance of work shoes to water vapor:

  • 6.6 Determination of water vapor permeability
  • 6.7 Determination of water vapor absorption
  • 6.8 Determination of water vapor coefficient

In the evaluation of shoes as foot protection equipment, it is important to determine the water vapor permeability, absorption and water vapor coefficient as a determinant of comfort. Moisture removal and thermal behavior of a shoe over a period of time is an important factor besides shoe comfort and absorption. LaboratoryFor most of the cases, these properties are usually measured on leather lining and upper or insole materials. Data on these materials are an indicator of the performance of the shoe.

Water vapor resistance (ISO 20344, §6.6 - §6.7 - §6.8) testing services are also provided by our organization within the scope of foot protection equipment testing services.
