Foot Protection Equipment Tests

Penetration Resistance of Base (ISO 20344, §5.8)

The ISO 20344 standard has been designed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) to describe the characteristics and test methods of footwear, which are among personal protective equipment. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 20344 Personal protective equipment - Test methods for footwear.

Penetration Resistance of Base (ISO 20344, §5.8)

This standard describes a number of methods for testing footwear of personal protective equipment. Among the test methods in the standard that are valid for all protective shoes, clause 5.8 is intended to determine the dimensional fit of the tips and the penetration resistance of the sole.

Clause 5.8 of the said standard is arranged as follows:

  • 5.8 Determination of the dimensional fit of tips and penetration resistance of the base
  • 5.8.1 Dimensional compatibility of ends
  • 5.8.2 Determination of the penetration resistance of the shoes using a metallic anti-penetration insert
  • 5.8.3 Determination of the penetration resistance of shoes using a non-metallic anti-penetration insert

Depending on the field of activity of the business, the risks that the employees are exposed to during working hours require the development of appropriate personal protective equipment. Personal protective equipment must provide proper protection and good sanitation for its users. Shoes are one of the most important protective equipment. Safety shoes must protect the foot from at least four hazardous situations: compression, impact, punctures and chemical products. Apart from this, there are some special risks. For example, using electric, mechanical and chainsaws.

In general, there are three types of shoes that differ in a basic classification: safety shoes, safety shoes and professional shoes. These include protective shoes, protecting workers from risks that cause accidents and soles of the feetare shoes equipped with a special part to protect against the penetration of various objects.

Within the scope of foot protection equipment testing services, our organization also provides the penetration resistance (ISO 20344, §5.8) testing services of the sole.
