EN 1751 Aerodynamic Testing of Building Ventilation, Air Terminal Devices, Dampers and Valves

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1751 standard. This European standard specifies methods for testing and rating dampers and valves used in air distribution systems with pressure differentials up to 2000 Pa.

Tests included in this European standard:

  • Leakage through a closed damper or valve;
  • Case leak;
  • Flow rate/pressure requirement characteristics;
  • Torque;
  • thermal permeability.

Acoustic testing of dampers and valves is not included in this European standard.

The tests mentioned above apply to:

  • Measurement of leakage through a closed damper or valve;
  • Measurement of case leakage;
  • Determination of flow rate and pressure requirements;
  • Measurement of torque characteristics;
  • Measurement of thermal transfer properties to determine insulation properties.

Certain aspects of the dynamic performance of dampers or valves depend on the air distribution system to which they are connected and are therefore difficult to measure in isolation.

Such considerations have led to the removal of these aspects of dynamic performance measurements from this European standard. Also, as with other air distribution components, the results of tests performed according to this European Standard may not be directly applicable if the damper or valve is placed in an uneven flow area.
