This part of IS0 9022 specifies methods for testing optical instruments and instruments containing optical components for their ability to withstand combined sinusoidal vibration under equivalent conditions, in dry heat or cold.
The purpose of the test is to investigate to what extent the optical, thermal, chemical and electrical performance properties of the sample are affected by combined sinusoidal vibration in dry heat or cold.
Exposure of the sample to combined stress conditions makes the test much more severe than separate exposure to any of the environmental conditions alone.
The duration of exposure to test temperatures depends on the thermal behavior of the sample and the specified vibration exposure time. Samples can be repositioned for vibration along another axis at any temperature between ambient temperature and the test temperature, provided condensation, frost or ice does not form.
To enable evaluation and comparison of the response of optical devices to suitable environmental conditions, IS0 9022 details a series of laboratory tests that reliably simulate a variety of different environments. The tests are largely based on IEC standards and have been modified where necessary to take into account optical device-specific features.
