This method is written to provide two separate digestion procedures, one for the preparation of sediments, sludges and soil samples for analysis by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FLAA) or inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES).
Preparation of sediments, sludges and soil samples for analysis of samples by Graphite Furnace AA (GFAA) or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Summaries from these two procedures are not interchangeable and should only be used in conjunction with the analytical determinations outlined in this section.
Samples prepared by this method can be analyzed by the ICPAES or GFAA for all listed metals as long as the detection limits are sufficient for the required end use of the data. Alternative predictive techniques may be used if the QC criteria of the method can be met, including those that are scientifically valid and related to interference.
Other elements and matrices can be analyzed by this method if performing at the concentration levels of interest at the respective matrices for the respective analytes.
