40 CFR PART 50 National Primary and Secondary Ambient Air Quality Standards

The promulgation of national primary and secondary ambient air quality standards shall in no way be considered to allow a significant deterioration of existing air quality in any part of any State.

The proposal, publication, or revision of national primary and secondary ambient air quality standards does not prohibit any State from establishing, under a tribal CAA program or any part thereof, ambient air quality standards for that State or territory that are more stringent than this standard.
