Bird Shooting Test

Many people see raider birds such as sea gulls, ravens and pigeons as annoying but otherwise harmless. However, the possibility of bird striking poses an existential threat for jet aircraft and individuals carried on board. For example, when US Airways Flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River in New York in January 2009, subsequent research by NTSB and FAA found that a pair of bird strikes caused the incident (one on each engine) at take-off.

Bird Shooting Test

Such events are well known in the aviation world. Every year, birds cause an estimated $ 400 million in damage on flying aircraft, and most incidents damage aircraft windshields or engines. To put the destructive power of bird strikes in perspective, 300 lb. at a relative speed of 154 knots (4 m / s). The impact of a (1.8kg) bird is much more effective than a bullet from a 50 caliber sniper rifle.

If a big bird hits an aircraft engine, all the flight crew can do is safely land the passengers on the ground. Often, safe landings may require at least one or more operational engines. This means that aircraft engines must be stiff enough to withstand bird attacks within certain limits. They should also remain operational enough to facilitate a safe emergency landing without flying and potentially damaging other parts of the aircraft.

Multiplication Simulator

The bird strike simulator used in laboratories can throw real birds or artificial ones up to 350 knots (400 mph). For this reason, this tester is often called a "chicken gun".

During tests, proximity sensors provide real-time speed measurement for each shot. Data acquisition systems capture temporary shock and load data and monitor all effects to provide important post-event analysis on high-speed video equipment.

We have all kinds of equipment and devices in EUROLAB that can test against bird attacks. You can contact us to discuss how we can help you meet your requirements for the bird strike test.
