Such products include liquids and materials that can liquefy when heated without undergoing chemical modification, and powdered, granular, and pasty materials. Samples can be taken from containers such as cans, barrels, tanks, tank wagons or ship tanks, but also from barrels, sacks, big-bags, silos or silo wagons or conveyor belts.
EN ISO 15528 does not deal with the preparation of samples for testing or the reduction of samples taken in this way. This is covered in ISO 1513.
Sampling depends on the product and container size but not on the type of product; paint, varnish, binder, pigment, extender or solvent. ISO 1513 specifies both the procedure for preliminary examination of a single sample taken for testing and the procedure for preparing a test sample by blending and reducing a series of samples representing a shipment of paint, varnish or related product. Samples of the product to be tested were taken in accordance with this document.
The various sampling procedures must be carried out with great care by operators with the necessary knowledge and experience. The general instructions in this International Standard are intended to supplement this knowledge and experience and are applicable to most situations. However, some products may require special sampling measures not specified in this International Standard; Operators will therefore need to take special care to take into account the unusual characteristics exhibited by these products.
