IEC 60068-2-27 Environmental Tests, Part 2-27: Standard Test for Tests, Test Ea and Guidance

IEC 60068-2-27 provides a standard procedure for determining the ability of a sample to withstand specified intensities of non-repetitive or repetitive shocks.

The purpose of this test is to reveal mechanical weakness or deterioration in specified performances or accumulated damage or deterioration caused by shocks. In conjunction with the relevant specification it can be used in some cases to determine the structural integrity of samples or as a quality control tool.

This test is primarily intended for unpackaged samples and items in carrying cases where the latter can be considered as part of the sample. If a product is to be tested unpackaged, it is referred to as a test sample. However, if the item is packaged, then the item itself is called a product, and the item and its packaging together are called a test sample.

When used in conjunction with IEC 60068-2-47, this standard can be used to test packaged products. This possibility was included for the first time in the 60068 version of IEC 2-47-2005. This standard is written in terms of predicted impact patterns.
