IEC EN 60068-2-75 Environmental Test - Hammer Tests

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60068-2-75 testing. IEC EN 60068-2-75 provides three standardized and coordinated test methods to determine a sample's ability to withstand specified impact intensities.

IEC EN 60068-2-75 Environmental Test - Hammer Tests

It is used primarily to demonstrate an acceptable level of robustness when assessing the safety of a product and is primarily intended for testing electrotechnical items. It consists of applying a predetermined number of blows to the sample, defined by the impact energies and applied in the predicted directions. This part of IEC EN 60068 covers energy levels ranging from 0,14 J (joules) to 50 J (joules).

Mechanical effects that are likely to strain the electrotechnical equipment in use can be produced by various types of hammers. For the purposes of standardization, the results of such tests should not depend on the type of tester and therefore the characteristics of the various types of test hammers described in this part of IEC EN 60068 are intended to be as close as possible for the same severity level.

The principle of this calibration procedure is to compare the energy provided by a spring hammer, which is difficult to measure directly, with the energy of a pendulum calculated from its mass and fall height.

The purpose of the Hammer Test is to simulate the mechanical effects that equipment may encounter during transportation, installation or use. These effects can occur due to misuse, falls, or accidental collisions. The test assesses the equipment's ability to withstand such mechanical shocks without any damage or failure.

By subjecting equipment to hammer tests in accordance with IEC EN 60068-2-75, manufacturers, researchers and regulatory agencies can assess equipment's resistance to mechanical impact and determine whether it meets the required standards for strength and durability. This test helps ensure that equipment can withstand real-world conditions and maintain functionality even after exposure to shocks.
