This part of the European standard specifies a suitability test which provides information on the leaching of granular wastes and sludges under the test conditions specified below, and in particular the liquid-solid ratio of 2 l/kg of dry matter.

This procedure applies only to waste material and sludge with high solids content: the dry matter content must be at least higher than 33%.
In addition, the required amount of eluate will be taken to perform physical and chemical characterization of the eluate. Also, the minimum dry matter content ratio should be high enough to ensure adequate mixing of the leachate liquid and the test portion.
