It is based on a sampling system and two analytical principles: ion chromatography and Thorin method.

This European standard specifies the performance characteristics to be determined by measurement systems based on the measurement method and the performance criteria that must be met. It applies to the periodic monitoring and calibration or control of automated measuring systems (AMS) permanently installed on a pile, for regulatory or other purposes.

This European standard specifies criteria for demonstrating equivalence of an alternative method to SRM with the application of EN 14793.

This European standard has been evaluated during field tests for waste incineration, co-incineration and large incineration plants. Approved for 0,5 minute sampling times in the range 2000 mg/m³ to 2 mg/m³ SO5 for an ion chromatography variant and 2000 mg/m³ to 2 mg/m³ SO30 for Thorin.
