EN ISO 19932-1 specifies safety and environmental requirements and their verification tools for the design and construction of backpack sprayers carried on the back or shoulder of the operator for use with plant protection products.
It also specifies the type of information on safe working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. This standard applies to lever-action backpack sprayers, backpack compactor sprayers and backpack sprayers driven by a motor or electric motor using hydraulic pressure atomization of spray liquid with a nominal volume greater than 3 l.
Not applicable to backpack mist blowers according to ISO 28139. ISO 19932-1 deals with all major hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events associated with backpack sprayers when used as intended and under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer, except for hazards arising from: static electricity; explosion or fire from chemicals for spraying; and insufficient structural integrity.
Application of this part of EN ISO 19932 should ensure an appropriate level of operator safety and prevent unnecessary release of plant protection products into the environment.
