ISO 7183 Compressed Air Dryers - Specifications and Tests

This standard applies to compressed air dryers operating with an effective (gauge) pressure of more than 50 kPa (0,5 bar) but less than or equal to 1600 kPa (16 bar) and includes:

• Adsorption dryers;
• Membrane dryers;
• Refrigeration dryers (including refrigeration drying) or a combination thereof.

ISO 7183 also provides partial load tests to determine the performance of energy-saving devices or measures and describes the installation, operating and loading conditions of dryers for noise measurement.

Exceptions to this International Standard are generally defined by reference to the description of the dryer. However, special exceptions are made for absorption dryers and dryer processes that involve "overcompression" as a means of removing water from compressed air.

Overcompression uses the principle that water can be removed by compressing air to a pressure higher than the intended operating pressure, thus expelling water from the compressed air, and then expanding the air back to operating pressure.
