Salt Mist and Salt Spray Test

Any product, material or system component exposed to salt and its derivatives must be able to withstand corrosion. It is important to show adequate resistance to salt spray and fog, not only for the sake of regulatory compliance, but also to provide a higher quality product to your end users or other stakeholders in general.

Salt Mist and Salt Spray Test

Salt fog and salt spray testing is done to determine the effectiveness of protective coatings and coatings on materials, as well as the effects of salt deposits on the physical and electrical aspects of a product.

EUROLAB can perform your corrosion testing to meet the requirements of customized testing programs as well as various regulatory standards. We have rooms, support equipment and technical expertise to ensure that test requirements are properly applied to your product in a professional lab environment.

Salt Spray Test

Correctly recreating the conditions encountered by a product or component in bad weather conditions is one of the main objectives of salt spray and mist testing. Doing this in a controlled environment allows our engineers to accurately and precisely measure the impact of these conditions on the tested materials. Then we can isolate problem areas and make more effective suggestions to improve your product.

To do this, our test laboratories use a closed salt spray chamber where your ingredient is exposed to an atomized sodium chloride solution in controlled doses. The exposure time and the strength of the solution are determined by your specific project requirements. After the test, we use the most advanced data collection and analysis tools to evaluate the overall corrosion resistance of your product at the microscopic level.

Salt spray testing is an important part of compliance with a wide range of regulatory standards, one of the most common being ISO 9227: 2012 - Corrosion Tests in Artificial Atmospheres. In order to maintain compliance with ISO 9227: 2012, materials must be continuously exposed to a 5% salt solution for 720 hours.

Salt fog testing is a must in many different industries, including defense, aerospace, automotive, power generation, telecommunications and more. Many of these industries have their own specific regulatory standards, such as MIL-STD-1312-01 and NASM 1312-1.

In addition to serving various large systems, EUROLAB also performs salt fog, salt spray and cyclic corrosion testing on smaller parts, using compact equipment that is more suitable for the tests at hand. It can test almost all of the military hardware, telecommunications equipment, automotive parts, consumer electronics, power generators and a variety of other products that must withstand corrosion in harsh working environments.

Our facilities are ISO / IEC 2 accredited by the American Laboratory Accreditation Association (A17025LA), which means we can get tests and certificates based on a wide variety of features. Our in-house engineers can design a comprehensive environmental testing program that includes salt fog and other factors. If your goal is quality assurance or compliance management, we can quickly finish projects of almost any size.
