Self Retracting Device, Dynamic Performance (EN 360)

The EN 360 standard, a European standard, describes the features and test methods of retractable type fall arresters against falling from height. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 360 Personal protective equipment - Against falling from height - Retractable type fall arresters.

This standard describes the requirements, test methods, marking, manufacturer's information and packaging properties for retractable type fall arresters. Retractable type fall arresters conforming to this standard, when combined with a full body harness as specified in the EN 361 standard, constitute one of the fall arrest systems within the scope of the EN 363 standard.

Retractable lanyards, devices containing a lanyard attached to a whole body harness and a secure fastening device are available in various lengths. However, it must be retracted to a drum in the body of the device, which is guided by a spring system. In the event of a fall, a braking component causes the drum to lock up and stops the user from falling as quickly as possible.

Retractable lanyards are subjected to a drop test similar to that used for standard lanyards. A solid test mass of 100 kg is used to measure the arrest distance and arrest force and the drop height is fixed at 600 mm, regardless of the total length of the device. A clip is applied to the cord at 600 mm to prevent it from retracting to its body and to ensure an unobstructed fall. The cord is mainly dropped within 2 meters from the release point and stopped with a maximum ignition force of 6 kNIt should be made.

Textile cords are subjected to a tensile force of 15 kN and metal cords to 12 kN.
