Electrical Insulation Gloves (IEC 60903)

The IEC 60903 standard prepared by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the properties and test methods of protective gloves made of insulating material. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 60903 Gloves - Made of insulating material - Working under voltage.

Electrical Insulation Gloves (IEC 60903)

This standard applies to electrical insulating gloves that protect workers against electric shock. This standard also includes electrical insulating gloves that provide additional integrated mechanical protection called composite gloves. In the last update, important changes have been made in the content of the standard. For example, the requirements and test methods for long gloves have been clarified, a new definition has been made for leakage resistant gloves, the requirement for an area to mark the inspection date has been removed, and direct current electrical tests have been removed from the normative part of the standard. In addition, defects assessment factors were determined, TS EN 61318 Working under voltage was adapted to the appropriate evaluation standard applicable to tools, devices and equipment, and a new normative annex was made for the classification of defects.

The test methods described in the IEC 60903 standard are:

  • Visual and dimensional control (general, classification, dimensions, thickness, workmanship and finish)
  • Marking (visual and dimensional inspection, durability of marking)
  • Packaging and usage instructions
  • Mechanical tests (general, tensile strength at break and elongation, resistance to mechanical puncture, tension adjustment)
  • Dielectric tests (type test, alternative tests when gloves complete production phase)
  • Aging test
  • Thermal tests (low temperature test, flame retardancy test)
  • Tests on gloves with special properties (Category A acid resistance, Category H oil resistance, Category Z ozone resistance, Category C extremely low temperature resistance, Category F leakage current resistance)
  • Special mechanical tests (abrasion resistance, cut resistance, tear resistance) for composite gloves

Our organization also provides electrical insulation gloves (IEC 60903) testing services to businesses within the framework of hand protection equipment testing services.
