The EN 407 standard, a European standard, defines the requirements and test methods for protective gloves used against thermal risks. This standard describes the requirements for protective gloves manufactured to protect against high heat or fire.

The numbers on these products show the glove performance for each test in the standard. The higher this number, the higher the glove's performance level.

According to the test method described in the EN 407 standard, the burning properties of the protective glove are determined first. Accordingly, the ignition time and how long the material shines or burns after ignition are measured. If the seam breaks after a 15 second firing time, the glove test is considered to have failed.

In the second step, the conduction heat is measured. For this, the glove is exposed to temperatures between 100 and 500 degrees. Then the time taken for the temperature of the inside of the glove to increase by 10 degrees is measured. The glove must withstand a maximum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius for at least 15 seconds.

For convective heat, it is measured how long it takes to increase the glove's core temperature by 24 degrees. A certain heat permeability of the glove is measured for radiant heat. In addition, the strength to withstand the number of molten metal drops that provide a temperature increase of 40 degrees between the glove material and the skin is determined.

Finally, in the last step, a PVC film is adhered to the back of the glove material and molten iron is poured onto the material. It is then measured how much molten iron is poured to damage the PVC film.
