Mechanical Performance (EN 388)

The EN 388 standard, which is a European standard, describes the properties and test methods of protective gloves against mechanical risks. In our country, it has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 388 Protective gloves against mechanical risks.

Mechanical Performance (EN 388)

Hands are vulnerable to a multitude of hazards in work environments, including various mechanical risks. There are many workers who deal with small parts, demolish, work with glass or many other materials and are at risk of injury from cuts and tears on their hands. Therefore, it is important to define and provide the most suitable protective gloves for the work done depending on the field of activity. Because protective gloves that are not suitable for the job, prevent dexterity or create a risk by getting caught in the machines.

The EN 388 standard is a key standard that should be considered when making this decision. The performance level expected of gloves tested according to this standard is high.

This standard is a safety standard designed for protective gloves against mechanical risks, which has been updated several times over the years. The latest update was made in 2018.

In fact, this standard is used together with the EN 420 standard. EN 420 standard is a standard for protective gloves, general properties and test methods.

The EN 388 standard, which helps users and safety managers determine the protection level of the protective glove, provides protection against various mechanical risks and uses index values to evaluate the glove's performance. These values are as follows:

  • Wear resistance
  • Cut resistance (coupe test)
  • Tear resistant
  • Puncture resistance
  • Cut resistance (EN ISO 13997)
  • Impact protection (EN 13594)

Earlier versions of the standard did not have a cut resistance and impact protection rating.

Mechanical performance (EN 388) testing services are also provided by our organization within the framework of hand protection equipment testing services.
