This European standard specifies requirements for the design, cut resistance, puncture resistance and ergonomic properties of cut resistant gloves, arm guards and protective sleeves made of materials other than chain mail and carbide metal and plastic, and provide less cut and puncture protection.
The products specified in part 1 of this standard are intended for use only where the blade is not sharply tapered or is used only for hand and forearm cutting.
It is also suitable for assessing situations that threaten heavy-wearing gloves, motorcyclist gloves, work gloves used to handle concrete blocks or razor wire, or garbage collector's protective leggings and trousers.
Tests covered by this European standard should be carried out by qualified and experienced people. The disclosed apparatus should only be used by authorized persons and, as far as reasonably practicable, requires safety measures to prevent injury to persons.
