EUROLAB, together with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 50281-3 testing. This standard deals with the classification of areas with explosive dust/air mixtures and flammable dust layers to allow the selection of suitable equipment for use in such areas.
This standard is intended to be applied where there may be a risk from the presence of explosive dust/air mixtures or flammable dust layers under normal atmospheric conditions.
Does not apply to:
Combustible dusts are dangerous because they create potentially explosive atmospheres when dispersed in any form. In addition, combustible dust layers can ignite and act as a source of ignition for an explosive atmosphere. Therefore, equipment placed in an environment where dust clouds can form must be protected against dust ignition and have a surface temperature limitation below the temperature at which a dust cloud or layer will ignite.
This standard provides guidance on identifying areas where hazards from combustible dust may arise. The aim is to allow the selection of suitable equipment for use in such areas. General and specific criteria for the procedure used in determining the areas are given with examples.
