In the sense of this standard, electrostatic charge is the mechanical charging of a textile floor covering, which can be measured as an electrical voltage on a capacitor of a certain capacity.
The textile floor covering to be tested is stored at low relative humidity for a sufficiently long time and then tested. During testing, a defined rolling body is rolled on the Megprobe. This charges the rolling body and a parallel connected measuring capacitor whose voltage is measured and recorded.
The turntable is used to hold the Meg sample during testing. It consists of a grounded metal plate (450 ± 1) mm in diameter. Thanks to the drive unit consisting of motor and reducer, it can be adjusted to rotation at (30 ± 1) min-1 revolution. The turntable is covered with an insulating elastomer plate 4 to 5 mm thick and (450 _ 2) mm in diameter.
At least three MEG samples with a diameter of 53 mm should be taken from the test sample to be examined, taking into account DIN 803 1 Part 2 and Part 450. Before measurement, samples are stored in the climate according to Chapter 6 for at least 7 days so that air has free access from all sides. Adaptation to this climate should occur after previous storage in a climate with higher humidity.
