IEC EN 60076-1 Power Transformers - Part 1: Standard Test for General Requirements

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60076-1 test. IEC EN 60076-1 applies to three-phase and single-phase power transformers (including auto-transformers), except for certain categories of small and special transformers. For power transformers and reactor categories that have their own IEC standards, this section applies only to the extent specifically called by cross-reference in the other standard.

IEC EN 60076-1 Power Transformers - Part 1: Standard Test for General Requirements

This new edition includes the following important technical additions over the previous one:

  • Definition of harmonic content;
  • Sub-article on transportation;
  • Functional determination method;
  • Connection symbols for single-phase transformers;
  • Safety and environmental requirements;
  • Requirements for liquid protection systems;
  • Article about DC currents;
  • Vacuum, pressure and leak tests in tanks;
  • Facilities for condition monitoring and environmental and safety considerations.

Where no IEC standards exist for such categories of transformers (especially transformers without windings exceeding 1000 V for industrial applications), this part of IEC 60076 is still fully or partially applicable.

This standard does not address requirements that make a transformer suitable for installation in a location accessible to the general public.

For power transformers and reactor categories that have their own IEC standards, this section applies only to the extent specifically called by cross-reference in the other standard.

At various places in this section it has been stated or recommended that an 'agreement' should be reached regarding alternative or additional technical solutions or procedures. This agreement is made between the manufacturer and the buyer. Issues should preferably be raised at an early stage and contracts should be included in the contract specification.

The rated power for each winding must either be specified by the purchaser or the purchaser must provide the manufacturer with sufficient information to determine the rated power at the inquiry stage.

The transformer shall have an assigned rated power for each winding which must be marked on the rating plate. Rated power refers to continuous loading. This is a reference value for guarantees and tests regarding load losses and temperature rises.
