IEC EN 60512-9-5 Connectors for Electrical and Electronic Equipment - Part 9-5: Endurance Tests - Test 9e: Current Loading

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60512-9-5 testing. IEC EN 60512-9-5 is used for testing connectors or solderless connections within the scope of technical committee 48 when detailed product specification requires. It can also be used for similar devices when the detail is specified in the product specification. The purpose of this standard is to detail a standard method for thermal stress conditioning of solderless joints with cyclic current loading.

IEC EN 60512-9-5 Connectors for Electrical and Electronic Equipment - Part 9-5: Endurance Tests - Test 9e: Current Loading

The purpose of this standard is to detail a standard method for subjecting solderless connections to a thermal voltage conditioning with cyclic current loading to verify the correct combination of conductor material, termination material and vehicle application.

The way the solderless joint under test works is affected by both the solderless termination design and material and the attached conductor size and material, as well as any tool applied to create the connection, along with all the settings and accessories involved.

A suitable current source generator is required for the performance of this thermal conditioning. The test can be done in AC or DC current. The output voltage of the power supply shall be suitable to compensate for the voltage drop across the entire test circuit which can predict daisy-chained samples.

Other tools required are a voltmeter to measure voltage drop and a micro-ohmmeter to measure resistance across the solderless joint under test.

The sample type and number should be specified in the detailed product specification. In the case of multiple samples, they can be connected in series, provided that each sample does not thermally affect the next sample. Therefore, the length of the connecting conductors should be chosen long enough to avoid mutual influence (the temperature at the opposite end of a heated sample should be ambient temperature).

For solderless connections used in connectors, if more than one sample is specified, the samples must be mounted inside one or more of the corresponding connector mating pairs.
