IEC EN 60793-1-43 Optical Fibers - Test for Numerical Aperture Measurement

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60793-1-43 testing. This standard specifies uniform requirements for measuring the numerical aperture of optical fiber, thus assisting in the examination of fibers and cables for commercial purposes.

IEC EN 60793-1-43 Optical Fibers - Test for Numerical Aperture Measurement

The numerical aperture (NA) of multimode fiber categories A1, A2, A3, and A4 is an important parameter that defines the light-gathering ability of the fiber. It is used to predict initiation efficiency, joint loss at joints, and micro/macro bonding performance.

The numerical aperture is defined by measuring the far-field pattern (NAff). In some cases, the literature uses theoretical numerical aperture (NAth), which can be determined by measuring the difference in refractive indices between the core and the coating. Ideally these two methods should produce the same value.

This second edition of IEC 60793-1-43, along with other standards in the IEC 60793-4X series, cancels and replaces the first edition of IEC 2001-60793-1 published in 43 and creates a technical revision.
