NSA 65-6 Standard Test for Measuring the Efficiency of Electromagnetic Shielding Boards

The NSA 65-6 is known as parallel setup, where both the transmit and receive antennas are in parallel planes and parallel to the plane of the specimen under test.

Magnetic and electric field weakening tests shall be performed with antennas placed exactly opposite each other and separated by 61 centimeters (24 inches) plus wall thickness. Magnetic field attenuation will be measured at 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz and 1 MHz. Electric field attenuation will be measured at 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz, 1 MHz and 10 MHz. For plane wave attenuation testing, the transmitting antenna should be located at least 6 meters from the enclosure surface (where applicable) and the receiving antenna should be located no closer than 5,1 centimeters (2 inches) from the wall.

Attenuation tests shall be made through the entire door frame, air ducts, filters and any accessible connection or passage. In addition, the magnitude and location of the maximum signal level emitted from the enclosure will be determined by testing at least four locations. The choice of test sites should include not only the walls, but also the floor and ceiling.
