EN 50470-3 Electrical Measuring Equipment (AC), Part 3: Special Requirements, Static Meters for Active Energy (A, B and C class Indexes) Test Standard

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50470-3 standard. This European standard applies to newly manufactured static watt-hour meters for residential, commercial and light industrial use in A, B and C class indexes for the measurement of alternating current electrical active energy in 50 Hz networks.

Specifies special requirements and type testing methods. This standard applies to static watt-hour meters for indoor and outdoor applications, consisting of a measuring element and registers assembled in a meter box.

It also applies to operating indicators and test outputs. If the meter (a) has measuring elements for more than one type of energy (multi-energy meters), or other functional elements such as maximum demand indicators, electronic tariff registers, time switches, surge control receivers, data communication interfaces, etc. If it is enclosed in a meter box (multifunctional meters), this standard only applies to the active energy measuring piece.

This standard distinguishes:

• meters of class indexes A, B and C;
• Directly connected and transformer-operated meters;
• Meters for use in networks with or without earth fault neutralizers.

Does not apply to:

• Watt-hour meters where the voltage at the connecting terminals exceeds 600 V (line-to-line voltage for polyphase systems);
• portable counters;
• Reference counters;
• Directly connected and transformer-operated meters;
• Meters for use in networks with or without earth fault neutralizers.

Acceptance test methods are covered by the IEC 62058 series of standards. The reliability aspect is covered by the documentation of the IEC 62059 series.
