IEC EN 60115-2 applies to leaded fixed low power film resistors for use in electronic equipment. These resistors are typically defined by types (different geometric shapes), styles (different sizes) and product technology.
The resistive element of these resistors is typically protected with a matching lacquer coating. These resistors have cable terminations and are primarily designed to be mounted on a circuit board in the through-hole technique. The purpose of this standard is to determine preferred ratings and features and to select appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measurement methods from IEC EN 60115-1 and to give general performance requirements for such resistors.
Introducing a product classification allows the user to select performance requirements based on the conditions of the intended end-use application.
Two general end product levels have been established to reflect characteristic differences in function, performance and reliability requirements and to allow the use of appropriate inspection and test programs. It should be recognized that there may be application conflicts between levels.
Resistors must be connected with their terminations to the appropriate clips on a rack of insulation material. All resistors will be mounted in a horizontal position, in only one layer. The distance between the axes of the resistors shall not be less than seven times the resistor diameter.
As lower performance levels are not permitted, the test intensities and requirements specified in the detailed standards referring to this section standard shall have the same or higher performance level.
