IEC EN 60335-2-14 deals with the safety of electric kitchen machines for household and similar purposes with a rated voltage of not more than 250 V. Appliances for normal household and similar use, which can also be used by lay people in shops, light industry and farms, are within the scope of this standard.
However, if the appliance is intended to be used professionally to process food for commercial consumption, the appliance is not acceptable for household and similar use only. As far as possible, this standard addresses the common hazards presented by appliances that are faced by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, physical, sensory or mental abilities; or lack of experience and knowledge prevent them from using the device safely without supervision or instruction.
This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection of devices against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, thermal, fire and radiation when operated in normal use, taking into account the manufacturer's instructions. It also covers abnormal situations that can be expected in practice and takes into account how electromagnetic events can affect the safe operation of devices.
A device conforming to the text of this standard shall not be deemed to comply with the safety principles of the standard if, upon inspection and testing, it is found to have other characteristics that impair the level of security covered by these requirements.
A device that uses materials or forms of construction other than those detailed in the requirements of this standard can be examined and tested for the purpose of the requirements and can be deemed to conform to the standard if found to be substantially equivalent.
