This part of IEC EN 60383 applies to insulators of ceramic material or glass for use in ac overhead power lines and overhead traction lines with a rated voltage not greater than 1000 V and a frequency not greater than 100 Hz.
It also applies to insulators for use in dc overhead electric traction lines. This section applies to string isolator units, rigid overhead line insulators and isolators of similar design when used in substations.
It can be considered a temporary standard for insulators for use in DC overhead power lines. The tests and dimensions for high voltage dc insulators provide general guidance for these insulators.
