It is used for testing connectors under IEC EN 60512-9-4, IEC technical committee 48 when the detail specification requires. It can also be used for similar devices when specified in a detail specification. The purpose of this standard is to detail a standard test method for evaluating a connector's ability to withstand the stresses caused by repeated removal and insertion of contacts during maintenance.
Test equipment should consist of insertion and removal tools as specified in the detail specification. The sample should consist of a component to which all contacts are fitted and wired according to the detailed specification. Loosen or remove all accessories to allow removal and placement of contacts. Accessories must remain loose or be removed during testing.
All contacts must be tested for test specimens with less than 6 positions, unless specified otherwise in the detailed specification. For test specimens with more than 6 positions, 20% of the contact positions, but not less than 6 and not more than 10, should be tested on each test specimen. For test specimens with more than 6 positions, the tested contacts should be randomly selected but must contain at least one contact near the periphery of the insert or housing and at least one near the centre. For components with six or fewer contacts, all contacts must be used for tests.
