IEC EN 60721-1-1 Classification of Environmental Conditions - Part 1-1: Environmental Parameters and Significance

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60721-1-1 testing. This part of IEC EN 60721 lists environmental parameters and a limited number of severity levels within the range of conditions that electrotechnical products meet when being transported, stored, installed and used.

IEC EN 60721-1-1 Classification of Environmental Conditions - Part 1-1: Environmental Parameters and Significance

This part of IEC EN 60721 contains a list of environmental parameters and their severity. It replaces the first edition of IEC EN 75-60721, published as an IEC report pending the results of studies in IEC technical committee 1 and other IEC technical committees on defining the environmental conditions to which products will be exposed during transport,
stored, installed and used.

Technical Committees that prepare environmental condition specifications for products should apply IEC EN 60721-3, but in exceptional cases, if 60721-3 severity values are not appropriate, the list in this section should be considered in the selection of values.

Consequently, when selecting environmental factors and agents for a particular product application, it is necessary to control the effects of these conditions and individual environmental factors, their combinations and, if applicable, the order in which they occur. The terms for environmental factors and agents generally refer to those used in IEC EN 60068, as applicable.

As a result, no attempt has been made to cover the severity of the pressures placed on the product. For example, severity ratings take into account the temperature of the surrounding environment (air, water, soil, water vapour, ice, oil, etc.) to which the product relates but to which the product is associated, and the temperature of the structure, but is not intended. represents the temperatures of the hotspots of the product itself.

A product is simultaneously exposed to several environmental factors and related substances. The effect of the combination of these environmental factors is particularly important where exposure to a combined environment affects the product in a different way than corresponding to successive environmental factors. Therefore, when selecting environmental factors for a particular application for a product, it is recommended to identify environmental factors whose combinations are likely to be taken into account.
