IEC EN 60772 Nuclear Power Plants - Instrumentation Systems Important for Safety - Electrical Penetration Assemblies Testing in Enclosure Structures

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60772 testing. IEC EN 60772 applies to electrical switchgears (EPAs) in containment structures of nuclear power plants. It covers the engineering safety requirements that must be met in the design, calculation, qualification, manufacture, assembly, testing, and installation of EPAs. EPAs provide gas-tight and pressure-tight passages through the enclosure for one or more electrical circuits. EPA requirements are divided into mechanical (eg enclosure integrity) and electrical or optical aspects regarding safety. Mechanical requirements apply to all EPAs.

IEC EN 60772 Nuclear Power Plants - Instrumentation Systems Important for Safety - Electrical Penetration Assemblies Testing in Enclosure Structures

This International standard focuses on electrical transition assemblies (EPAs) in enclosure structures. EPAs used in safety systems at nuclear facilities must comply with various Standards in order to meet safety functional requirements throughout their qualifying life. This goal is achieved through comprehensive design, qualification, manufacture, testing, installation and commissioning.

Therefore, this IEC standard focuses specifically on the aforementioned issues. Other aspects of quality assurance, reliability and selection, including verification and verification activities, are not part of this standard.

This standard does not address the design, related calculations and test conditions of the mechanical aspects of penetration devices; they are published in other standards such as ASME and European Boiler and Ship codes. Therefore, this Standard provides references to other Standards as needed.

Derived EPA types are defined as follows:

  • medium voltage power;
  • Low voltage power;
  • Control;
  • instrumentation;
  • Fiber optic.

For the purposes of this standard, EPAs include:

  • Electrical conductors (transitional conductors) up to the connection interface inside and outside the enclosure;
  • Electrical insulation systems of penetration conductors, including electrical insulation of the connecting interface;
  • These EPA's components for resistance to environmental conditions such as pressure resistance, gas tightness, temperature resistance, radiation resistance, seismic resistance enclosure, and for connection with the enclosure wall;
  • Permanently connected equipment for tightness inspection, if required;
  • Standard electrical connection interfaces such as cable lugs, terminals and connectors;
  • Terminals or junction boxes (if necessary).
