IEC EN 61008-1 Test for Residual Current Operated Circuit Breakers Without Integrated Overcurrent Protection for Household and Similar Uses

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61008-1 test. IEC EN 61008-1 applies to residual current-operated circuit breakers with rated voltages not exceeding 440, functionally independent of line voltage or functionally dependent on line voltage, without overcurrent protection (hereinafter referred to as RCCBs) for household and similar use . With rated frequencies of 50 Hz, 60 Hz or 50/60 Hz and rated currents not exceeding 125 A, V AC is mainly intended for protection against shock hazard.

IEC EN 61008-1 Test for Residual Current Operated Circuit Breakers Without Integrated Overcurrent Protection for Household and Similar Uses

These devices are intended to protect persons against indirect contact when the exposed conductive parts of the installation are connected to a suitable earth electrode. They can be used to protect against fire hazards due to a permanent earth fault current without the overcurrent protective device operating. RCCBs with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA are also used as a means of additional protection in case of failure of the means of protection against electric shock.

This standard applies to devices that simultaneously perform the functions of detecting the residual current, comparing its value with the residual operating value, and opening the protected circuit when the residual current exceeds this value.

Common-type RCCBs are resistant to undesired trips, including when overvoltages (as a result of switching transients or caused by lightning) cause loading currents without jumping in the installation.

RCCBs shall be protected against short circuits by circuit breakers or fuses in accordance with the relevant standards according to the IEC EN 60364 installation rules. It should not be possible to change the operating characteristics of the RCCB through external interventions other than those specifically intended to change the setting of the residual operating current. Without the tool it will not be possible to switch from one setting to another. It will not be possible to disable or block the RCCB function in any way.

The movable contacts of all poles of multipole RCCBs must be mechanically connected so that all poles, if any, except the switched neutral, must be switched on and off substantially together, whether manually or automatically operated.
