EN 50153 Railway Applications - Railway Vehicles - Protective Provisions Regarding Electrical Hazards

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50153 standard. The EN 50153 standard defines the requirements to be applied in the design and manufacture of electrical installations and equipment to be used in wagons to protect persons from electric shocks.

EN 50153 Railway Applications - Railway Vehicles - Protective Provisions Regarding Electrical Hazards

This European Standard is applicable to wagons of rail transport systems, road transport systems, magnetically levitated transport systems and electrical equipment installed in these systems if they are powered by an external supply (eg trolleybuses).

This European Standard does not apply to:

  • Mining railways in mines,
  • Crane installations, mobile platforms and similar transport systems on rails,
  • funicular railways,
  • temporary structures.

It is generally accepted that safety depends on the normal behavior of the operators involved, as well as human factors depending on technical factors.

For these reasons, this European Standard leaves, in many cases, the contracting parties a choice between two alternatives. These alternatives consist of either providing operating rules, regulations and procedures or implementing technical measures such as mechanical or electrical interlocking devices.

There may be situations where contract parties (eg user and manufacturer) must reach an agreement before signing the contract.

EUROLAB, with its more than 25 years of experience, state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, helps you get precise and fast results.
